Above & Beyond Award Recipient
The Lex Brodie’s Above and Beyond Award is dedicated to honoring members of the community who have put themselves in harm’s way, made a substantial sacrifice for the good of others, or provided a meritorious contribution to our local community. On March 2018, Christopher Arakawa of the United States Army was awarded for being a community hero. In addition to his service to our country, Christopher spends much of his time devoted to Club 100 for the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans of World War II.
Every month for years Chris has volunteered to help maintain the clubhouse, whether that be pulling weeds or mopping the floors. Chris has also been essential in every event involving a WWII Japanese American individual or organization. He rallies his coworkers to make sure all the jobs get done, “Whether it be arranging for a last minute military funeral honor service at Punchbowl for a veteran's burial, visiting a lonely veteran alone in a care facility, speaking to students on a school tour of our Clubhouse, or stepping up to the microphone to serve as emcee of an Anniversary Banquet“ according to his nominator, Jayne Hirata.
While serving our country, Christopher has found the time to honor those that served before him proving him to be an excellent candidate for this award. He recently completed Officer Training School and will be having his graduation on March 17th. The Clubhouse will be throwing him a party to celebrate. We are excited to honor Christopher with the Lex Brodie’s Above and Beyond Award on March 17th at his graduation party!
