Today we want to talk to you about how to maximize the sale of your home. There are things you need to do to your home that will cost you less money and stress if you start early. Even when the market is hot, buyers will still balk at dirty, cluttered homes with a lot of personal items strewn about.
Here’s what you need to do:

“It’s tough for buyers to imagine themselves living in your home with a lot of personal items strewn around.”

1. Clean, clean, clean, and clean some more. We all have super-busy lives, so if you don’t have the time to give your home a professional-level cleaning, then hire a professional cleaner. Once you are in escrow, you will need to hand over a clean home per the terms of your contract. Why not just bring back the pro who already knows your home from doing the pre-marketing cleaning?
2. Declutter. You should plan on removing one third of the items in each room. Use the garage as a staging area. If you don’t want to put stuff in storage, rent a pod in the driveway, or just get rid of the stuff.
3. Depersonalize. You want the buyer imagining themselves in your home. It’s tough to do that with a lot of personal items around. At the very least, clear the fridge of all the drawings, pictures, and school schedules.
There you have it. If you want to sell your home for more money in the shortest amount of time, remember to declutter, depersonalize, and thoroughly clean your home.
